For ordinary K'gari surf, Hervey Bay side and Great Sandy Strait tidal fishing, Queensland does not use a general recreational fishing licence checkout. Do not buy SIPS for a beach or tidal marine-park trip unless your itinerary also includes a listed stocked impoundment.
That no-general-checkout answer is only the payment layer. Around K'gari, the real checks are Great Sandy Marine Park zones, Queensland tidal limits, gear rules, closures, protected species and K'gari access permits.

Great Sandy Marine Park zones
Great Sandy Marine Park surrounds K'gari and Great Sandy Strait. Recreational fishing can be allowed in some zones, but green marine national park zones are no-take areas, and other zones can restrict how many lines, hooks or lures may be used.
Use the official Great Sandy Marine Park app, maps and provisions table before fishing. The map is not optional near Middle Rocks, the western side of K'gari, creeks, shorebird areas, artificial reefs, channels, no-anchoring areas or any boundary that looks close on a phone screen.

K'gari land and freshwater checks
K'gari beach fishing is a different answer from fishing lakes, streams or protected inland water. Queensland Parks says all freshwater fish are protected on K'gari, and fishing or collecting bait in lakes and streams is not permitted.
Vehicle and camping permissions are also separate from fishing rules. A vehicle access permit or camping permit can be required to reach or stay near a fishing location, but those permits are not fishing licences and do not override marine park zones or fisheries limits.
Species, gear and closures
Use the Queensland tidal size and possession limits before keeping common catches such as tailor, whiting, flathead, bream, dart, mackerel, trevally, reef fish, crabs or prawns. Check protected and no-take species before handling anything unfamiliar.
For gear, open the current Queensland equipment rules before carrying crab pots, cast nets, scoop nets, spears or multiple lines. In Great Sandy Marine Park, a zone can make otherwise legal Queensland gear unlawful at the exact spot.
Buying and proof
There is usually no K'gari-specific fishing licence purchase for ordinary tidal recreational fishing. The Queensland paid pathway to know is SIPS, but SIPS applies to listed stocked impoundments. It is not the checkout for K'gari surf or Great Sandy Strait tidal water.
Save the official marine park map, Queensland Fishing 2.0 checks and access-permit details before travelling. If mobile coverage is patchy, the key proof may be your location, gear, catch and access permission rather than a generic fishing licence receipt.
