Broadwater licence answer
The Gold Coast Broadwater, Gold Coast Seaway and South Stradbroke tidal waters do not use a general Queensland recreational fishing licence checkout for ordinary recreational line fishing. Do not buy a generic Queensland fishing licence for a Broadwater shore or boat trip.
SIPS is the paid Queensland permit that often confuses visitors, but it is for listed stocked dams and weirs. It is not the purchase step for ordinary tidal fishing around the Broadwater or Seaway.

South Stradbroke zones
South Stradbroke is not one simple open-water answer. QPWS material describes different marine park zones around the island, and the map is the controlling practical check.
Do not write "South Stradbroke is closed to fishing" or "South Stradbroke is open to fishing." The safer answer is narrower: check the exact zone, because some waters allow recreational fishing while marine national park green zones prohibit taking fish or collecting marine life.
Before crossing a boundary, keep fishing gear stowed and do not rely on a saved screenshot. Use the official marine park app or zoning map before fishing near Currigee, the island edge, the Seaway or any mapped boundary.
Artificial reef and Seaway checks
The South Stradbroke Artificial Reef is a useful local example because it is not the same as a stocked impoundment and not the same as every marine park zone. Official material identifies it north of the Seaway and lists recreational fishing as an allowed activity, subject to the reef's special rules and the surrounding marine park framework.
That does not make every method legal. Before fishing the reef, check the official reef page, marine park map, current notices, tidal size and possession limits, no-take species and gear rules. Treat commercial fishing, scuba diving, spearfishing, anchoring and line fishing as separate activity checks.
The Gold Coast Seaway is also a boating and navigation decision. Use official boating maps, weather and tide information before planning a crossing or anchoring nearby. Marine park maps do not replace navigation charts.
Tidal species and gear
Use Queensland tidal size and possession limits before keeping fish, crabs, prawns or shellfish from the Broadwater. Possession limits are not just "what you caught today"; they can include fish kept elsewhere, so do not fill an esky from an old memory of a daily bag.

Queensland regulated-waters and Fisheries Declaration material also need careful reading. Broadwater and Seaway entries can relate to commercial netting or specific methods; they are not a simple statement that all recreational rod fishing is banned.
Island access and boating
South Stradbroke access is a separate layer from fishing rules. Camping, landing, anchoring, mooring, vessel speed and local closures can all affect the trip.
Use QPWS visiting guidance, Maritime Safety Queensland maps and current notices before relying on an island plan. A legal fishing method still needs a lawful and safe access route.
