Great Lake licence check
Yingina / Great Lake is a Tasmania inland angling trip. People aged 14 or over generally need a current Inland Fisheries Service angling licence to fish inland waters with rod, reel or line unless an official exception applies.
Under-14 anglers have a narrower answer than adults. They generally do not need an inland angling licence when using one rod at an open inland water, but the water still has to be open and the method still has to be allowed. Anglers aged 14 to 17 should use the junior inland licence pathway, which IFS currently lists as free.

Water-specific rules
Do not use only the statewide "most waters" season for Great Lake. The IFS Yingina / Great Lake waters A-Z entry splits the lake into areas with different method and season answers.

At last verification, IFS listed brown trout with a 300 mm minimum size. Rainbow trout were listed with a 400 mm minimum size and a maximum of 3 rainbow trout within the combined daily bag of 12 fish. Recheck the live water entry before keeping fish, because the water-specific page is the practical rule source for the lake.
Access and boating
Use the IFS Great Lake access brochure before launching or planning a shore route. IFS lists concrete ramps at Swan Bay, Cramps Bay, Brandum Bay and Tods Corner, a gravel ramp at Haddens Bay, and low-lake launching at Boundary Bay. The brochure says ramps are usable between full supply level and about 17 m below full supply level.
Great Lake can become rough quickly, and low water can expose submerged hazards. Check weather, water level and boating restrictions before launching.
IFS and MAST also list navigation exclusion areas. Before relying on a route, check the current wording for places such as Miena Dam, Tods Corner Power Station, Poatina Intake, Arthurs Lake Diversion, Liawenee Canal and Liawenee Weir Pond. A valid inland angling licence does not override boating safety rules or prohibited zones.
Buying and proof
Buy or renew through the IFS licence pathway or the Service Tasmania angling licence service. Choose the right duration and rod count before paying, then keep proof available at the water.
If you are choosing between Great Lake and another Tasmania water, check the other water separately. Arthurs Lake, Great Lake, sea fishing areas and seaward-limit waters do not all share the same rule pathway.
