Tasmania Fishing Licence Check: Inland, Sea and Beginner Gear

Before buying Tasmania gear

Tasmania has two beginner paths that should not be mixed. Inland angling is an IFS licence question from age 14 unless an official exception applies. Ordinary recreational sea fishing with rod and line in marine waters usually does not need a sea licence, but rock lobster, abalone, scallop, nets and set-line activities have separate sea licence checks.

Choose the water and method first, then buy gear. A trout kit, a basic sea rod and a rock lobster setup belong to different rule pathways.
