Before buying NT gear

The Northern Territory has no general recreational fishing licence. That does not make every shoreline, species or method open. A beginner should decide the access route and rule layer before buying gear: public water or Aboriginal land, ordinary line fishing or pots and nets, local day trip or remote fish-keeping trip.

For a first trip, choose simple rod-and-line gear and leave regulated methods, boat-heavy setups and remote-area equipment until the location is clear.
