Rules after the licence question

South Australia does not require a general recreational fishing licence, but PIRSA rules still control what you can do on the water. Treat the licence answer as the beginning of the check, not the end.

Closures	Check PIRSA fishing closures before travelling.	Seasonal, area, emergency or species-specific closures can override the general answer.
Protected and pest species	Confirm whether the species must be released or reported.	Protected/no-take and pest rules are not solved by licence status.
Gear, bait and berley	Check rules before using nets, pots, berley, marked gear or specialist methods.	Some methods have registration, marking, area or use conditions.
Marine parks	Check sanctuary-zone and marine park restrictions.	The same species can be allowed outside a zone and prohibited inside it.
Reservoir or managed water	Open PIRSA reservoir guidance and the SA Water permit page.	Access, permits and designated fishing areas can be site-specific.
